Parent Participation Preschools
All 15 Vancouver Island Cooperative Preschool Association (VICPA) preschools are parent operated on a cooperative, non- profit basis. The preschool employs an experienced, qualified Early Childhood Educator (ECE) who is responsible for the children’s program and guides the parents when they assist in the classroom on a rotational basis. Parent participation preschools promote direct involvement of the parents, which makes for a unique educational family experience.
Families who have enrolled at our preschool tell us the extra work that comes from being part of the co-op preschool is a worthwhile investment with long term benefits. Parents tell us they are developing better parenting skills, enhancing their relationships with their children and making long-lasting friendships with other families in the preschool community. Children enjoy sharing the special day when their parents are on duty in the classroom.
Our Educational Philosophy
The children’s educational program emphasizes “Learning Through Play”: Play equates to happy children and healthy development!
VICPA preschools provide a curriculum that:
- Supports the development of the whole child socially, emotionally, physically, intellectually and creatively
- Recognizes each child’s unique learning style, abilities, and developmental level
- Allows for hands on learning, where the curriculum can emerge from the child’s interests, making learning meaningful
